Standards-based grading has become quite popular over the years. Unlocking the full potential of your students requires not only a deep understanding of their strengths and areas of growth but also an effective system to track and communicate their progress.

It also helps me to know where my students are starting. Before I begin teaching on any standard, I’m sure, like most of you, I offer a pretest. This pretest score gets recorded in my student data tracker as a starting point for each standard we are working on. Once the unit is complete, I record the post-test scores in the student data tracker.
